ARAG Legal Solutions Inc., a member of the ARAG Group, the global leader in legal expense insurance operating in 19 countries, offers an innovative and comprehensive range of legal expense products and services for brokers, underwriting agents and insurers across Canada. 

As part of our strategy to expand and strengthen our presence across Canada, we are looking for an energetic and creative person to join us as an Underwriter.  

Please note due to strict COVID-19 stay at home orders by the province along with our local government and our commitment to ensuring all employees are safe, our staff members are temporarily working remotely until it is safe to return to the office. 

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate submissions and rate risks
  • To finalize quotations within underwriting authority.
  • To act as a technical referral point for the Underwriting Development Department.
  • To track all questions and referrals to allow analysis and identification of trends and knowledge gaps.
  • To feed information to the VP of Underwriting regarding identified trends and concerns over knowledge and skills.
  • To coach and mentor members of the Underwriting Development Department.
  • To assist members of the Underwriting Development Department to work through their technical development framework.
  • To assist with Quality Assurance.
  • Exposure monitoring, analysis and interpretation
  • Focus on retaining and developing existing business, through excellent customer service.
  • Ensuring that all contractual obligations are carried out in a timely fashion, including maintaining the contract itself.
  • To build effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • To assist in the production of tenders for new business where required.
  • To take responsibility for policy wordings and literature management.
  • To manage your time to ensure that all work is completed on time and to the highest standard, ensuring that you are delivering what you have promised to our internal and external customers.
  • Where required attending customer meetings, potentially at customer premises.
  • To identify any concerns or trends that could impact ARAG, our products / services, or product performance. These concerns should be fed through appropriate channels.

Skills:

  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • 1-3 years of insurance underwriting experience with detailed knowledge of technical principles, procedures and systems
  • College Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Good customer service skills
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Proficiency Microsoft Office software
  • Bilingual in French & English (not required, but considered an asset)
