Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Innovation Leader – Toronto, Ontario

ARAG Legal Solutions Inc., part of the ARAG Group, is the global leader in legal expense insurance operating in 19 countries offering an innovative and comprehensive range of legal expense products and services for brokers, underwriting agents and insurers across Canada.

As part of our strategy to expand and strengthen our presence across Canada, we are looking for an energetic and innovative person to join us as an Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Innovation Leader in Toronto.  The successful candidate will be responsible for staying abreast of global AI trends and implementing cutting-edge AI technology internally while working the various departments.  This role requires a forward-thinking individual with a deep understanding of AI, a strategic mindset, the ability to drive innovation across the organization and applied knowledge of the standards of a modern IT-architecture.  The successful candidate is able to implement AI into our infrastructure applying best practise methods of (agile) IT-project management. Further, as embedded into our IT-environment, the role will perform as IT-coordinator working closely together with our IT service-provider. You will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

What will you do?

AI Strategy and Implementation:

• Develop and execute a comprehensive AI strategy that aligns with the organization’s goals and objectives.
• Derive measures to implement the strategy according to our company’s characteristics.
• Identify and assess emerging AI technologies and trends and determine their applicability to our business.
• Lead the implementation of AI solutions to enhance operational efficiency, customer experience, and product offerings.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI technologies into existing systems and processes.

Innovation Leadership:

• Foster a culture of innovation within the organization by promoting creative thinking and problem-solving.
• Identify opportunities for leveraging AI to drive business growth and competitive advantage.
• Lead and mentor the organization to develop and implement AI solutions to streamline processes and create efficiencies by applying a professional change-management.

Research and Development:

• Conduct research on the latest AI advancements and their potential applications in various industries.
• Develop and maintain a knowledge base of AI use cases, best practices, and success stories.
• Pilot and prototype AI solutions to test their feasibility and effectiveness before full-scale implementation by supporting the management with profound proof-of-concepts.

Infrastructure Enhancement and ensuring IT-coordination with our service provider:

• Assess and upgrade the organization’s infrastructure to support AI initiatives, including data-processing, and -analytics capabilities.
• Steering our IT-service provider with state-of-the-art methods and by ensuring a status-reporting, workstream-coordination, preparing IT-steering committees and ensuring an excellent stakeholder management with our service provider
• Ensure the scalability, security, and reliability of AI systems and applications.
• Implement data governance and ethical AI practices to protect privacy and ensure transparency.

About You:

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience in AI, data science, or related fields.
• Proven track record of successfully implementing AI solutions in a business environment.
• Deep understanding of AI technologies, including machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and robotics.
• Acquainted in agile IT-project management and the respective methods
• Ability to lead interdisciplinary teams by motivation and drive
• Experience in IT-consulting preferable
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into actionable strategies.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., SAP Analytics Cloud and SAP Datasphere, AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and AI frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans.
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure.
• An ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment.
